Professional Extension Diploma in Botanical Medicine

The diploma in Botanic Medicine is specifically designed to provide already qualified health care practitioners with knowledge of herbal medicine. This program is offered for professionals who wish to develop or add to their understanding of medicinal herbs and treatments.
Available as a distance learning program, the program is equal to 12 seminar days (6 hrs/day). Designed for active, busy lifestyles, the program is constructed so that you can move at your own pace. The average time to completion is about 1 1/2 to 2 years.

Course Outline
Seminar 1 – Fundamentals of Herbal Medicine (2-day lecture)
This seminar covers the scientific examination of how and why herbs work. The seminar includes a study of the constituents and active principles in herbs as well as a survey of herbal preparations (extracts, tinctures, etc.). Reviews the importance of establishing dosage protocols (therapeutic dose) and provides an introduction to herbal energetics (Ayurvedic doshas).
This is a fundamental seminar.
Seminar 2 – Herbal Medicine for the Digestive System
Treatment protocols for Gastrointestinal disorders (GIT) such as peptic ulcers, reflux conditions, irritable bowel syndrome, hepatitis, gall bladder disease, inflammatory bowel syndrome.
Seminar 3 – Herbal Medicine for Dermatological Conditions
Indicates topical and oral herbal medicine protocols for various skin conditions (psoriasis, eczema, acne, etc.)
Seminar 4 – Herbal Medicine for Respiratory Conditions
treatment protocols for upper and lower respiratory disorders such as cough conditions, bronchitis, asthma, rhinitis and sinusitis.
Seminar 5 – Herbal Medicine for the Immune System
Treatment protocols for conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, autoimmune conditions, colds and influenza (flu).
Seminar 6 – Herbal Medicine for Urinary and Male Reproductive Systems
Treatment protocols for chronic urinary infections in both men and women. Also includes prostate enlargement, impotency, etc.

Seminar 11 – Herbal Toxicology and Drug Interaction (2-day lecture)
Reviews precautions to be taken when administering herbal medicines, particularly with patients using conventional prescriptions
